An antique opal and diamond ornate bar brooch. The central teardrop opal is surrounded by an array of old-cut diamonds of varying sizes. Approximate opal measurements H 1.6 cm x W 1.05 cm assessed in the setting. The bar stamped 15ct and assessed as 15ct, the pin 9ct and the setting 9ct and silver. A note accompanies the brooch which reads: This opal was given to my grandfather Dr. Charles Hathaway by a grateful Indian patient in Calcutta by P**k Pittar opal merchant, it was worn by him as a tie-pin, etc. Length of bar brooch 7cms. Height of central panel including articulated dropper 4 cm. Weight 7.34 grams.
